On Dec 5, 2017 members of the Langston Civic Association spoke to those working on and reviewing the application for the proposed Kingman Park Historic District including the Kingman Park Civic Association, The Office of Planning and the DC Preservation League. Although members expressed great interest in preserving African-American history in the community, the following concerns led to a majority vote against the proposal:
ANC 5D VOTED TO SUPPORT WITHOUT COMMUNITY INPUT OR NOTICEIn November 2016, ANC 5D voted to support the inclusion of Langston and Carver in the proposed Kingman Park Historic District. The commission voted without holding any publicly noticed meetings on the topic or substantive debate on the potential impacts of designation. Only 3 households from the impacted area were in attendance at the vote. Comm. Henderson (ANC 5D05) is a former member of the Historic Preservation Review Board which will be making a final decision on the case early next year.
