The Langston neighborhood (Precinct 79) has faced challenges in previous years keeping election day staff. We need more people in the community to step up and take on the role of election workers to keep our democracy healthy. If you or anyone you know would be interested in serving the community by becoming an election day worker, please read the criteria below and contact the DC Board of Elections.
To serve as an election day worker, you are required to be a District resident. Process You will be selected based upon need. If positions are available, you will be contacted by DCBOE staff a few months prior to the election. Not all applicants are selected to serve and not all applicants selected are assigned to their home polling place. Work Requirements Election workers must perform the following tasks:

We are requesting funding in order to support the after school and summer programs for kids at the Patsy V. Hartsfield Center which has been offering out of school enrichment in our community for over a decade. This grant would specifically support the following activities:
The DC Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 ended slavery in Washington, DC, freed 3,100 individuals, reimbursed those who had legally owned them and offered the newly freed women and men money to emigrate. It is this legislation, and the courage and struggle of those who fought to make it a reality, that we commemorate every April 16, DC Emancipation Day.
